Anita Louise Williams Gable
Anita Louise Williams Gable, formerly of Tonkawa, passed away peacefully in her Enid home, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, December 9, 2021at the age of 73.
Anita Williams was born in Ponca City, OK on December 30, 1947 to Carl David and Nadine Pierce Williams. She grew up in the oil fields surrounding Tonkawa, attending Fountain and Lincoln Schools and graduated from Tonkawa High School in 1966. She attended Northern Oklahoma College while working as a receptionist for a private company and a clerk at Rexall Drug Store in Tonkawa.
Anita was active in 4-H Club and Future Homemakers of America. Her goal in life was to become a wife and mother. Her Great Aunt Anna Lee Williams introduced her to a nice young man she had met in Blackwell, OK and who had just completed his military service. She invited both to her house for game night, and it was love at first sight. They were married on August 10, 1968. Throughout their marriage, the couple engaged in common hobbies including traveling, gardening, and raising doves. They celebrated 45 years of marriage until Philip’s death in 2013.
They made their first home in Oklahoma City, then moved to Stillwater, OK, where their first child, a son, Carl was born. Following another move to Enid, in 1972, they added two daughters, Holly and Philita. Anita served as a helpmate to her husband, wearing many hats for her family and church, including running the family grass farm. She served as a Youth Sunday school teacher and taught for numerous years. She was eager to share her joy of the Lord with her children and grandchildren.
Weekly she filled her Oldsmobile to the brim with children packed in like clowns in a tiny car at the circus. During her final days, Anita was asked what the one piece of advice she’d give her family or anyone else. She replied, “Trust God more”.
Anita was preceded in death by her husband, parents and grandparents - Buford and Agnes Williams and Arizona Pierce all of Tonkawa.
She is survived by her children Carl E. Gable and wife Christina; Holly A. Gable Wedel, and Philita L. Daniel and husband Mark; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and adopted and foster children of those grands. She is also survived by her sisters, Rebecca Burris and husband Eugene Burris and Gayla Odenwald, and a very special cousin called ‘sister’ Marilyn Ramey and husband John all of Tonkawa and many cousins, two aunts and many friends.
Family Visitation was held on Saturday December 11 at Amy Stittsworth Funeral and Crematorium of Enid. Anita’s Celebration of Life services, organized by her children, were held at Driftwood Fellowship in Enid on Monday, December 13, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. followed by interment at the Enid Cemetery, Pastor Damond Burpo officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked for contributions to the Driftwood Fellowship Church, 421 California Street, Enid, OK; the Diabetes Association, Hospice or other charity of your choice; or planting a tree in her memory, through the floral store on Stittsworth’s web site.
