On February 5, Northern Oklahoma College’s Roustabouts performed their first show of the year. For NOC’s Homecoming, the Roustabouts put on an incredible performance in the Kinzer Performing Arts Center. Going through Novel Pop, Newish, and Motown, on Wednesday they performed songs that have rocked the charts over the past few years and favorites from the Motown setlist as the audience, filed with current NOC students, alumni, and Tonkawa community members, were able to experience this great show. The Roustabout program has been a huge aspect of Northern Oklahoma College since 1964. The Roustabouts are truly focused on these students’ love of performing. The program is offered by the Northern Oklahoma College Music Department and is a contemporary music ensemble. There are no stipulations saying that these students must be music majors, it is just a group of young people coming together to celebrate their love of music and the stage. In fact, many of these students are not music majors. The group performs a wide variety of music, from country, both new and old, rock, pop, blues, and more. This program has taken students across the globe to perform, having had the opportunity to travel to Russia, Romania, Great Britain, Tennessee, Washington, DC, and have performed on Carnival and Royal Caribbean cruise lines since its beginning. The Roustabouts are always looking for new talent and it is important to them to keep the upcoming college students informed about their program. Whether you play an instrument, sing, or would like to work as a technician, there is always room with the Northern Oklahoma College Roustabouts. The Roustabouts hold performances on their own stage, travel to schools in the area to perform, and are now even reinstating their traveling performances on a cruise this year! While they are on their home stage, performances are usually open to the public and are well worth checking out. To learn more about the Roustabouts program, visit www.noc.edu.
