50 years ago, January 30, 1975Chamber of Commerce Membership Drive The annual membership drive of the Tonkawa Chamber of Commerce is now in full swing!The Drive was kicked off last Wednesday morning at 7 a.m. when members of the membership committee met for breakfast at Mary’s Café. Committee members are Dick Pearman, chairman, Jack Henderson, Larry Penn, Jack Harris, Max Welch, Randy Glasgow, Rex McSparrin, Mike McAninch, Dr. Gerald Burson, Rod Carr, Jim Carver, Calvin Crumrine and Bill White.The committee has set up a goal of 300 members, individuals and businesses. Memberships are $15 and up for individuals and $50 and up for businesses.“Tonkawans need to know more about the Chamber,” they added. “It supports many projects, include in the Hamateur Revue, Spring Festival, Easter Egg Hunt for school children, city beautification, Kay County Fat Stock Show, Red Carpet Country, Bicentennial, Summer Recreation program, Christmas decorations for the city, Kay County Soil Conservation, 4-H Rally, Senior Citizens program, and Retail Promotion.
