Edna Irene Tipton Covalt 1935 — 2024
Edna Irene Tipton Covalt, 89, passed away on December 26, 2024, in Garden City, Kansas, she was born on May 3, 1935, in Burbank, Oklahoma, the daughter of Orlen C. and Thelma Irene (Hoffman) Tipton.
Edna took pride in her career as a nurse, she worked for many years as a traveling nurse which took her to various states including Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Nebraska. She was also a talented seamstress; her nimble fingers crafted Barbie doll clothes that brought joy to her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Her creativity and skill were matched only by her adventurous spirit, which she showcased as a talented rodeo queen and performer. In her younger years, she wowed crowds with her trick roping, and later on, she traveled with her nephew, Marty Tipton, assisting him with his trick roping performances for the State of Oklahoma’s Centennial Year.
Edna's love for storytelling was as legendary as the tales she told. Her stories were not merely spoken; they were performances that captivated her audience, filled with the same passion and vivacity that she lived her life. She was a family legend, revered not just for her achievements but for the way she loved her family fiercely and lived life to the fullest.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda and Al Miller
of Garden City, Kansas; grandchildren Todd and Jennifer Palkowitsh of Dover, Ohio, and Carrie and Lonnie Rudd of Overland Park, Kansas; greatgrandchildren Nikki Burch of Garden City, Kansas, Neisha and Larry Newsome of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Nathan Burch of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Corvin Beggs of Overland Park, Kansas, and Bella Palkowitsh of Kansas City, Kansas, siblings, Robert Tipton of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Nadine and David Thomas of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Raymond and Patty Tipton of Ponca City, Oklahoma, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Landon Covalt, brother Joe Tipton, and her granddaughter Sherry Burch.
Graveside Service and interment will be held at 10:30 am January 25, 2025 in the IOOF Cemetery in Tonkawa, Oklahoma.
