FORT WORTH — Navy quarterback Blake Horvath took a snap from inside his own 5-yard line found and saw a wide hole open up in front of him.Oklahoma’s Trace Ford could only get a hand on the junior quarterback as he faked a handoff near the goal line. Defensive end R Mason Thomas got two hands on him as he sprinted past the line of scrimmage, but barely slowed him down. With no Sooners left in front of him, Horvath won the foot race to the end zone. His 95-yard touchdown run set all kinds of records, and tied the game, 14-14, late in the third quarter. After jumping out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, the Sooners gave up 21 unanswered points in the Armed Forces Bowl on Friday and failed on a twopoint try in the final seconds in a 21-20 loss.Missed opportunities continued to haunt the Sooners in their seventh loss of the season.“You get these small windows in the course of a game to be able to capitalize and we just didn’t do some of the basic things that you gotta do in order to win and put somebody in a really tough position,” head coach Brent Venables said. The Sooners put the pressure on Navy early, but wasn’t able to put them away. They marched down the field on each of their first two possessions and scored touchdowns for the first time since the season opener. Still, they picked up a key first down on a fake punt pass from Luke Elzinga to senior cornerback Woodi Washington, but a holding call put them behind the sticks and they failed to convert on a fourth-and-1 from the Navy 20.They had a chance to go up by three scores again, driving near midfield before once again getting stopped on fourth down. When Navy got the ball back it faced a third-and-1 when Horvath faked a quarterback sneak to throw a pop pass to a wide open receiver for a 21-yard gain. They scored their first touchdown three plays later on an 11-yard run by Alex Tecza. The Sooners were outgaining Navy 273-121 at halftime, but ...
