Red Ribbon Week of 2024 has come to Tonkawa Public Schools. The Red Ribbon Campaign is the largest and longest running drug-abuse prevention campaign in the United States. National Family Partnership was established as a grassroots, nonprofit organization in 1980 by concerned and determined parents who were convinced they should begin to play a leadership role in drug prevention, according to their website. The Red Ribbon works to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.Touching millions of lives around the world, this campaign serves as a symbol of peoples commitment to raise awareness of the devastation caused by drugs in America. To show their support for the cause, and act as a fun week for the children, Tonkawa Elementary School is having their Red Ribbon Week from October 28 through November 1.On Monday, October 28, the theme of the day was Proud to be Drug Free and all student showed their pride by wearing all red and sporting red ribbons. Tuesday’s theme was to make healthy choices for a peaceful future and the students wore their best Tie-Dye. Wednesday was use your head - don’t do drugs and the students showed off their craziest hair or hats. Thursday will be themed ‘Good Decisions Build Character!’ and the students are asked to dress as their favorite book character. Friday’s theme will be Buccaneers say NO to drugs and the students are asked to be decked out in their buccaneer gear for the final day of Red Ribbon Week.
