The request of Mrs. Robert Hambleton, 213 North Main, to have her son, a kindergarten student, transferred from the Tonkawa school district to Union 61 northwest of the city was denied by the Tonkawa board of education at its regular monthly meeting Tuesday night in the superintendent’s office. The board voted 3-0 to deny the request after hearing Mrs. Hambleton’s presentation. Our board member, John Kuchera, abstained from voting because his wife is the kindergarten teacher at Union 61 and he said he had a divided interest in the matter.Mrs. Hambleton said she feels that the kindergarten program here is not adequate. She said she had talked to parents of kindergarten students at Ponca City, Blackwell, Medford, and Billings and displayed work done by students at these various kindergarten classes. She also showed the board the work done by son Robie, here in the class of Mrs. Barbara King, and asked the board to compare the work done. She also showed a group of papers that her son had done last year at the pre-school class.Mrs. Hambleton said she did not think the teacher, new this year, was “completely qualified.” Superintendent T. J. Allen replied that she has a three-year provisional teaching certificate for Kansas and said the State Department of Education determines the qualifications of all teachers. He told Mrs. Hambleton that Mrs. King has three years to get her standard teaching certificate and she is fully qualified to teach.Bucs To Perkins Friday Night For Demon’s Game The Tonkawa High school Buccaneers will travel to Perkins Friday night to meet coach Ditz McIlvain’s Demons in a game scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m.McIlvain, a graduate of Tonkawa High school, has a good team this year with a 3-2 season mark.
