NOC Wrestling Workout Begin On September 30Wrestling workouts will begin September 30 at Northern Oklahoma College with coach Bob Zweiacher returning seven regulars off of last year’s team, which placed sixth in the nation among junior colleges.Northern’s first wrestling match is not until December 3, but coach Zweiacher will begin practices September 30, “so the wrestlers can gain better conditioning while we work with holds the first couple of weeks.”Wrestling must rank for team position before matches. That is all wrestlers at the same weight must compete among themselves, with the winner representing that weight.“We should begin ranking around the third week in November, with some capable wrestlers that will hopefully come around for us,” said Zweiacher.Along with 7 returning regulars from last year, Northern will be aided with the addition of four high school state champions.Ben Bolt, a class 3A champion from Bartlesville will compete at 118. Carl Center, also a champion in 3A from Owasso will challenge at 134.State champ Bob Kraft of 3a, Tulsa Bishop Kelly, will wrestle 150 or 158. Greg Davidson joins Northern wrestling at 142. Greg was a class 2A state champ from Perry.Bucs Will Meet Chilocco There On Friday NightThe Tonkawa High school Buccaneer football team with a 1-2 season mark will travel to Chilocco Indian School Friday night to meet the Indians, who have a 2-1 season record. It will be the first meeting of the two schools in many years.Chilocco won its opener against Morrison 40-6 and the following week dumped Pond Creek, 47-0. Last Friday night the Indians lost to Wichita Collegiate, 22-0.The Bucs begin their season with a 20-0 win over Shidler and have lost to Perry, 49-6 and Fairfax, 34-0 in their last two outings.Coach Jim Minor said the Indians have speed and size and run out of the single wing formation. He said end Jerry Ailey will be out of action for two weeks due to a badly sprained ankle that was injured in the Fairfax game.
