God had a son. His name is Jesus. Psalm 2:7 tells us, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you.” This is a prophecy about who Jesus is and that phrase was repeated several times in the New Testament. For example, in Acts 13:33 Paul preached at synagogue in Antioch in Pisidia. And, after having spoken of Jesus’ death/ burial/resurrection, Paul said “We bring you the good news that what God promised to the fathers, this he has fulfilled to us - their children - by raising Jesus, as also it is written in the second Psalm, ‘You are my Son, today I have begotten you.’” In Matthew 3:17, when Jesus was baptized by John in the Jordan River, “A voice from heaven and said, ‘This is MY BELOVED SON, with whom I am well pleased.” In John 1:34: John the Baptist declared, “I have seen and have borne witness that this (Jesus) is the Son of God.” And later, when Jesus asked disciples who they believed He was, Peter replied: “You are the Christ, THE SON of the living God” (Matthew 16:16).And Hebrews 1:5 compares Jesus to the angels and says: “To which of the angels did God ever say, ‘You are my Son, today I have begotten you’”? So God’s Son was not an angel! Why is this so important? Well, the Apostle John tells us it makes a great deal of difference, as he tells us, “No one who denies the Son, has the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also” (1 John 2:23). Then again he says, “Who is it that overcomes the world but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” (1 John 5:5). He follows that up with, “God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who has not the Son of God has not life” (1 John 5:12).He is telling us that anyone who denies the Jesus Christ is God’s Son does not have eternal life, salvation. And furthermore he says that the person who believes that Jesus is the Son of God will overcome Satan. Then at Jesus’ trial He was brought before the Jewish Sanhedrin. And the High Priest said to Jesus, “I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, THE SON OF GOD!” to which ...
