50 years ago, May 30, 1974Tonkawa Youth To Present Folk Musical Tuesday Thirty young people from the First Christian church, Church of Christ, United Methodist church, St. Joseph’s Catholic church and the First Baptist church, Tonkawa will be presenting the Christian folk musical “Lightshine” at 7:30 Tuesday, May 28 in the high school auditorium.Lightshine is a modern setting of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. It is a musical celebration of happiness. Through the songs, the meaning of the Beatitudes is studied and shared by the chorus to the audience and the character Mime.Members of the cast are speaker, Larry Case; mourner, Joni Mihura; meek, Lisa Green; man, Terry Allen; mercy, Sondra Ross; drummer, Yancy Denny; apprentice, Eric Williamson; Mime, Wally Walcher; teacher, Tim Coulter; Alpha, Pam Davis; Beta, Patty Davis and Delta, Debbie Ailey.The Lightshine chorus consists of Heather Simpson, Lori Williams, Nancy Williams, Amy Rence, Dana Lyall, Dlima Montogomery, Beverly Cathey, Mary Reeser, Martha Minor, Christy Kuehny, Tina Green. Ricky Ailey, Dennis Ailey, Charles Wright and Dan Colwell.The production is under the direction of Tony Ward, minister of music at the First Baptist church, assisted by Mrs. Diana Lyall Reese.3 THS Basketball Players Named For Prep Honors Three Tonkawa High school senior basketball players have been named to the Prep All-America Basketball Yearbook for 1973-74, as announced today by the editors of Coach and Athlete magazine and Bruce Shropshire, THS basketball coach.Named were Mike Yelton, 205 S. Frantz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Yelton; Daryl Scheirman, 608 Meadowlane, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Scheirman and Terry Ingmire, 204 North Main, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Ingmire.Their selection to the honor roll makes them eligible for juding in the Prep All-America National Awards – Prep 100 Squad, Super Ten Team and Cum Laude, which will be announced in the May-June issue of the magazine.Nominations for the 1973-74 Prep All American basketball program were made last fall by high school coaches and athletic directors, college recruiters and sports writers across the country. They were asked to nominate candidates having the best record of local achievement on their teams or in their areas. Criteria by which these local basketball players were nominated include: outstanding athletic ability based on career records, sportsmanship, leadership and service to team and community.Each of the three Tonkawa winner’s athletic achievements will be presented in the 1973-74 award yearbook to be published in August.Ingmire ...
