There are millions of caregivers in the United States and they all have common needs; recognition, counseling, support, information, problem sharing and, in many cases, peer socializing. One of the proven ways that many of these needs can be met is by attending a Caregiver Support Group. Caregivers are one of American’s most valuable assets, but often their needs are lost in the care recipients’ problems. Therefore, having a place where caregivers can be themselves, share experiences and insights and have the positive input of their peers is critical.Caregiving is one of the hardest jobs you will ever have. It is sometimes hard to reach out for help. Caregiver stress is a real thing. Unless you find ways to deal with it you will become burnt out. Caregivers need to take care of themselves too or you won’t be around to care for your loved one. You don’t have to go it alone. There are others going through the same or similar thing as you are. Come and meet with other caregivers and learn from them about what works or doesn’t work. In talking with a caregiver today, she wondered why more people didn’t come to support groups. She yearns for other caregivers to talkto. Maybe it’s the name support group that scares people. You don’t have to talk if you aren’t comfortable doing so. Just listen to the others and you will see that you are not the only one going through this. Together we can get through this.
