50 years ago, May 16, 1974Future Homemakers of America Installation1974-75 Officers for the Tonkawa High School chapter of the Future Homemakers of America were installed in a candlelight ceremony Tuesday night in the high school auditorium. They are Pam Howeth, Devotion Chairman; Louenda Wood, Reporter; Julie Mason, Historian; Dana Lyall, Secretary; Jamilu Morgan, Second Vice-President; Mary Sean Coyle, President; Melani Lauer, First Vice-President; Erin Noles, Parliamentarian; Pam Burns, Treasurer; and Cindy Tharp, Music and Recreation Chairman.Band Banquet Held In High School Cafeteria Jamilu Morgan, president of the Tonkawa high school band, was the mistress of ceremonies at the 1974 Band Banquet held Thursday, May 9, in the high school cafeteria. 142 persons were in attendance.Miss Morgan welcomed students and guests. The invocation was given by Gary Walcher.Special recognition was given to band officers; incoming and outgoing officers of the Band Parents who had worked on organizational projects; and to the graduating seniors of the band, Gary Walcher, Mark Burson, Charles Conaghan, Jim Appleman, Curt Avey and Richard Gorman.Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Martin of Ponca City, parents of Band Director Doug Martin, were introduced.Bill Moorman, president of the Band Parents, reported on the year’s work, and T. J. Allen, Superintendent of Schools, praised the band over the year’s accomplishments.A highlight of the evening was the presentation of a humorous skit honoring the senior members of the band. Portraying the seniors were Mary Coyle, as Gary Walcher; Gregg Davis as Mark Burson; Marta Moorman as Charles Conaghan; Jim Rogers as Jim Appleman, Dona Andrews as Curt Avey; and Kevin Steichen as Richard Gorman.Mr. Martin presented T-blankets to the graduating seniors. Mr. Moorman, in behalf of the Band Parents, presented a gift of appreciation to Mr. Martin.Mrs. Eddie Manley was in charge of banquet decorations, which included a backdrop featuring a caricature of Mr. Martin inscribed “Our Leader.” Dining tables were laid in gold and decorated with musical notes in spring colors.
