The Tonkawa delegates to the 2024 American Legion Auxiliary Girls State have been selected, Nancy Appleman announced this week. Delegates are Kate Owen, Kalli Gilbert, Noel Combrink, and Reid Randall. All of the delegates are currently completing their junior year at Tonkawa High School.Oklahoma Girls State is a unique and exciting government- in-action learning program in which the American Legion Auxiliary guides young women to become knowledgeable stewards of freedom, democracy, and patriotism. The 2024 session of Oklahoma Girls State will be held at the University of Central Oklahoma May 26-31, 2024. At Oklahoma Girls State, delegates will establish their own city, county, and state government. The delegates attending Oklahoma Girls State experience governmental procedure by simulating political campaigns, elections, and the political process.The registration fees are provided through the American Legion Auxiliary and the local American Legion Unit. Community contributors include Joseph Brining, Charles Conaghan, First National Bank of Oklahoma, Gateway First Bank, Dean Gatz, IBEW Local Union 444, Richard Johnson, Owen Auto Supply, Dawn and Russel Ross, Larry Smith, and the Tonkawa Tribe.
