We understand that a house or any building needs a good foundation. A building with a foundation problem introduces problems in the rest of the building. This is the point Jesus make with the “foundation” of our life. If your life’s foundation is NOT sound, then the rest of your life—your faith will crumble.Jesus used this illustration in Matthew 7:24-27 where He compared one’s life foundation and the following results. The person who build his life on a firm bedrock was wise and the “house” would withstand the storms of life. But the person who built his life upon a poor foundation would not stand in the face of life’s problems. We may wonder what is that “rock” we are to build upon. Jesus began this illustration with the answer: “everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice” is the wise person.Paul writing to Timothy told him in 2 Tim. 3:14-16, NOT to neglect his foundation. He said to him to continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing how from childhood you have been acquainted with the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Now what Paul’s saying is this: Scripture is your foundation. And you know you can trust that foundation, because it came from God. Then he states that all scripture is inspired by God.That’s an interesting word—“inspired.” It literally is “Godbreathed.” God “breathed” His word. That reminds us of when God created Adam. “The LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature” (Genesis 2:7).God breathed His Word and it became a living Book! It is alive with power! And when we read it, it touches and shapes us, and gives us life. As the writer of Hebrews says: “the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Heb. 4:12).God’s written Word is a powerful force. Even Satan couldn’t deal with its power. After the temptation he tried to tempt Jesus. And do you remember the words Jesus spoke that stopped Satan in his tracks? Every time Jesus was tempted He said “It Is Written….”Paul takes this one ...
