(Published in the Tonkawa News, Tonkawa, Oklahoma, Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023)Kay County Commission Monday, October 30, 2023 Newkirk, Oklahoma The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) of Kay County, Oklahoma, met in regular session at 9:00 o’clock a.m. on Monday, October 30, 2023, the meeting was posted for public information on October 27, 2023, at 8:50 a.m. at the Commissioners Room, west entrance of the Kay County Administration Building in Newkirk, Oklahoma, and on the Kay County Website.Chairman Shane Jones called the meeting to order: Commissioners: Jason Shanks, Member, present; Jeff Kreger, Member, present. Others present were as follows: Brian Hermanson, Kay County District Attorney (DA); Steve Kelley, Kay County Sheriff; Daniel Hesson, Emergency Management Director; Skylar Mathews and Paul Stokesberry, Kaw Nation; Claude Williams, Taxpayers for Transparency; Tammy Reese, Secretary/Kay County Clerk.Chairman Shane Jones led the flag salute.Motion was made by Kreger and seconded by Jones approving the regular meeting minutes of October 23, 2023. Motion carried: Kreger, aye; Jones, aye; Shanks, abstained.Motion was made by Shanks and seconded by Kreger approving and authorizing the Requisitioning Officers (RO), Receiving Agents (RA), and Inventory Clerks (IC) for the following accounts: Peckham Fire Department-RO-Shane Jones/ Jason Shanks/Jeff Kreger/ Tammy Reese, RA-Dusty Eckert, IC-Chad Eckert; Ranch Drive Fire Department-ROShane Jones/Jason Shanks/Jeff Kreger/Tammy Reese, RA-Betty Steichen/Marty Steichen, ICScott Steichen/Brian Dye. Motion carried: Kreger, aye; Jones, aye; Shanks, aye.Motion was made by Kreger and seconded by Shanks approving the Kay County Clerk Disaster Plan. Clerk Reese said she updated to change the name of the newly hired Emergency Management Director for Kay County. Motion carried: Kreger, aye; Jones, aye; Shanks, aye.Road and Bridge Projects/ Circuit Engineering District (CED) No. 8 Road and Bridge Projects: Commissioner Jones said crews are putting tin up on a new sand building, washed and cleaned up the mowers and tractors, rebuilt a track hoe bucket, put out and picked up high water signs in the district, and worked in the shop.Commissioner Shanks said crews worked in the shop.Commissioner Kreger said crews hauled shale and sand to the roads, graded roads, pushed sand up off the river, filled pot holes in the Nardin area, installed radios in all the vehicles, and changed out a culvert on Brake Rd.Motion was made by Shanks and seconded by Kreger approving Agreements between the BOCC and the following to have remote terminal capabilities with the Assessor’s office: Lukas Hayes. DA Hermanson approved as to form.
