Tonkawa goes on the road to “Chikaskia River” rival Blackwell at 7 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 15.The Bucs are 2-0 and the Maroons are 0-2. Blackwell was open this last week. The Maroons lost their opener during week zero to Cleveland 6-14 and fell to Afton 9-34 on week one.Buc Head Coach Mike Kirtley said the Blackwell offense will be challenging. “You just don’t know what they’re going to do. In their first two games, they showed two radically different styles” -- a three back formation and then a quarterback-dominated run game. Defensively, they’ll be in a four front, he said.Perry game a ‘grind’ Kirtley called the Perry game a “grind.” -- for “our fans, parents, players and coaches. “I still think we’re going to get better,” Kirtley said. “It was kinda’ my fault,” he said, “We had a couple of starting players that missed practice so I didn‘t let them start. I’m just glad we had enough juice left in the second half to finish with the win.”He said several players were playing “buggered up” -- Ryan Morgan and Cayden Duvall with ankles and both Keith brothers “but they all toughed it out.”The Bucs return to home field Friday, Sept. 22, to open A-5 league play vs. Chouteau.
