$20,000 Check Presented To Airport Trustees The Blackwell-Tonkawa Airport Trust Authority was presented a check for $20,000 Friday afternoon from the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission by W. Howard Cloud, Oklahoma City, deputy director of the commission at a luncheon meeting at Perkins restaurant attended by dignitaries of both cities.The check represents the state’s share toward purchasing land for the airport to be located west of I-35 between Blackwell and Tonkawa.The check was presented at the regular meeting of the Authority, which was open to the public.Tonkawans attending the meeting included Dr. G. E. Burson, Chuck Davis and Loy Reisch, Authority Trust members, Mrs. Burson, Mrs. Davis, Gilbert Humphries, Dick Pearman, attorney for the airport trust, Dr. D. L. Mathews, Rex McSparrin, Glen Strange, Leon Carver and Dr. E. E. Vineyard. From Blackwell, Louis Gose and Bob Shepherd and J. R. Richards, airport trust authority members, Bill Rodgers, Jr., Glenn Brumbaugh, Doug Cain, George Morgan, Jim Willis, Mrs. Lea Reames, J. C. Gilliam and Paul Hockersmith.Notable visitor included State Senator Roy Grantham, Ponca City, Rep. Dorothy Conaghan, Tonkawa; Blackwell Mayor Bill Hahn and Tonkawa Mayor Ron Appleman.Clarence E. Turner, Freedom, secretary and first district commissioner of the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission told the group that the “site selection committee did a great job.”Following the meeting Friday, Turner, accompanied by Mrs. Conaghan and Burson was taken to the site of the new airport.Gregg Davis To Receive Eagle Award Wednesday Gregg Davis, 14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Davis, 105 South Jenkins, will receive his Eagle Scout Award, Boy Scouts of America, this Wednesday, June 13, at the Will Rogers Reservation, near Cleveland. A previous story in the News listed the presentation date as June 18. This was erroneous and the News regrets the error.The presentation will take place June 13 about 5:30 p.m. immediately before the flag lowering ceremony. Troop 26 from Tonkawa and Gregg’s parents will be in attendance.Gregg has been active in Scouting since January, 1970. He is on the camp staff at Will Rogers this summer, teaching Environmental Science and Camping Skills.
