The annual Lucky Duck Derby sponsored by the Tonkawa High School Alumni Association, partnering with the Tonkawa Masonic Lodge, will be held on Monday, July 4th, immediately following the parade that starts at noon in downtown Tonkawa. The Derby will take place at the canal on West Grand Avenue just west of Treasures on Grand Avenue (previously the Christian Church).Ducks can be adopted for the Derby at the First National Bank, Gateway First Bank, Tonkawa Chamber Office, Sarah Campbell’s Dental Office, Mike’a Payne d/b/a Plush Salon, Okie Insurance (Kevin Randall Agency), Tonkawa Library, and from a THS Alumni Board member. Board members include Jeremy Owen, Ty Williams, Darren Pendleton, Jill Shackelford, Melinda Glasgow, David Fruits, Debbie Flanery, Jennie Evans, Chris LaBlue, Colton Anson and Reta Swords. Individuals selling ducks include Lori Simpson, Dawn Huff, Michelle Owen, Lori Evans, Jennifer Burns and Melanie Bellinghausen. Ducks may also be adopted at Venture Foods beginning Saturday, June 3rd through Monday, July 3rd or until we run out of ducks.The cost to adopt a duck for the Derby is $5 each or 5 ducks for $20. Proceeds go toward scholarships for THS graduates to a college of their choice and THS projects.
