The Tonkawa Board of Education is filling a position that has been vacant since a reduction in force (RIF) in the spring of 2014. During the nine-year span, Principal Kyle Simpson has fulfilled the position of administrator and athletic director. Simpson announced his retirement in February with June 30 being his last day of duty.Twelve applicants from across Oklahoma and Kansas applied for the role. All who submitted were certified administrators with experience ranging from 0-19 years. “This huge response to our advertisement speaks volumes for our school district and our community. During interviews, applicants reported they were drawn to Tonkawa by its facilities and the tradition of excellence, both of which are obtained through school and community partnerships,” Superintendent Lori Simpson said.Joey Reinart of Carrier, Oklahoma has accepted the position of assistant principal and athletic director. He is a graduate of Oklahoma State University and obtained his Master’s in Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Texas. Reinart comes to TPS with 16 years of experience in education. His career began at Perry and took him to John Marshall High School, and then to Chisholm High School where he served as assistant principal and athletic director for 8 years. In addition to his administrative duties, he has coached high school football, basketball, softball, and track. He led Chisolm to the state semi finals and through numerous rounds of playoffs. Joey is a Certified 3 Dimensional Coach and has memberships in Oklahoma and National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. He is the father of 11 year old Haden who is a 5th grader and Coleman, 8, who is in 1st grade. Like their dad, they love sports and anything outdoors including football, baseball, basketball, track, and golf.Reinart was hired Thursday, March 9, at a special meeting. The board, after a 32 minute closed session, voted 4-0 with Casey McAninch, Brian Bowling, Jerry Hook and Nancy Appleman all in favor of Supt. Simpson’s recommendation. Board member Tyler Langston was absent.
