50 years ago, March 1, 1973Delta Kappa Gamma Meets Saturday Morning The Delta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma met at the Perkins Restaurant on February 24 at 9 a.m. for breakfast. Thirty-nine members were present.The centerpiece for the head table was of red roses with white gypsophilia, which was presented later to the speaker.The club Collect was read in unison and led by Miss Mary Belle Sullivan.Mrs. Leo Rodrigues, president, presided during the business meeting.Mrs. M. L. Korn, program chairman, introduced Dr. Connie Brooks, state president, from Tulsa who spoke on the purposes of the organization. She stressed service to education, sincere dedication and enthusiasm. She announced that two Stillwater members had received scholarships.There will be no March meeting as the State convention will be held on March 23, 24, 25 in Tulsa. The April 23 meeting will be held at Ponca City in the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.Hostesses were: Mrs. Claryne Lee, Mrs. Barbara Radd, Mrs. Barbara Ware and Mrs. Leona Lopresti.Jim Wood Takes Position With Canadian League Former New Mexico State University Head Football Coach Jim Wood has been named as offensive coordinator of the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League.Wood, who is the son of Mrs. W. D. Wood, 707 East Grand, and the late Mr. Wood, was head coach at New Mexico State for five seasons. He will take up his new duties on April 1, and was named by Stampeder Head Coach Jim Duncan.Wood accepted the Calgary offer after deciding between it and some collegiate offers. He called it a “new dimension” and said the decisions on whether to enter the professional ranks, or remain in college coaching was difficult.At Calgary, Wood will be reunited with one of his former Aggie players, running back Jesse Mims. He was the second-leading ground gainer for Wood during the 1970 season.Less Sales Tax Collected Here Than January ‘72 Sales tax collections for Tonkawa, reported in January but reflecting December business were down slightly from a year ago according to information released by the Oklahoma Tax Commission. In January 1972 collections were $10,218.83 while this year for the same month they were $10,021.50 for a slight decline.Blackwell dropped from $31,417.46 to $30,378.73 while Newkirk gained from $6,048.07 to $6,175.33 and Ponca City gained from $125,317.95 to $133,040.79 for the month.Ponca City’s increase gave the county a gain for the month in collections from $185,331.03 to $194,151.21.THS Girls ...
