Award winning author, Alton Carter, recently visited Tonkawa schools on February 8.Carter is the author of children’s books, “The Boy Who Dreamed Big” and “The Boy Who Went to the Library”. He has also written chapter books “The Boy Who Carried Bricks,” “Aging Out,” and “The Boy Who Survived,” all based on his life growing up in the foster care system, which included 17 foster homes, three nstitutions, and a boys’ ranch.Carter read aloud and visited with pre-k and kindergarten students at the elementary school in the morning, and then grades 1-5 in the Event Center. After lunch he visited a sophomore English class for a question and answer session and then grades 6-12 in the Event Center. Mr. Carter shared with students many aspects of his life and talked to them about being resilient, setting goals, and choosing their futures.
