Kyle Simpson, long-tme Tonkawa principal and athletic director, submitted his letter of resignation at Monday night’s school board meeting, ending a 29-year tenure with the school district.The past 21 years he has served as principal and athletic director.In his letter to the board and Superintendent Lori Simpson, he said: “In July of 1994 I was offered a position in Tonkawa elementary by then Superintendent Ron Hodges. Little did I know that job offer would turn into a 29 year career with Tonkawa Public schools! I would like to thank Nancy appleman for welcoming me to the elementary and for all the support she has offered over the years. I would also like to thank rod Reese for offering me the position of Tonkawa MH/HS principal and athletic director, the position I currently hold and have held for the last 21 years.“Being a classroom teacher and building principal has been an unbelievably satisfying and challenging job. The reward is seeing your students succeed, not only in academics, but in becoming successful and contributing citizens. We have been blessed at Tonkawa to have outstanding faculty members, coaches and support staff to whom I am eternally grateful. I have always felt that I was supported and backed by all the school board members over the years and want to say thank you for that. Finally, I would like to thank Superintendent Lori Simpson for her unwavering support of the administrators, faculty and students. She truly Loves Tonkawa!“It is time o chase the grand kids. June 30, 2023, will be my last day as an employee of Tonkawa Public Schools, however, I will continue to support the schools of Tonkawa and will forever be a Buc!”Two other resignations were also accepted -- Christine Jernigan and Phillip Jernigan, both elementary teachers.Their letters follow: Christine Jernigan: “Please accept this letter as an officlal notification of my retirement. I will be retiring at the end of this school year. May 19, 2023 will be my official last working day. I have enjoyed the opportunity to work with the great students and wonderful colleagues here at Tonkawa Elementary School.
