Honors keep coming in for the 2022 Tonkawa Buc football team.District A-5 coaches have bestowed the following honors: Player of the year -- Blake Bristow Offensive MVP -- Cameron Jackson Middle linebacker of the year -- Jaidyn Guzman Noseguard of the year -- Jadin Howard Slot receiver of the year -- Roman Chandler Utility player of the year -- Tyler Looper Two other Bucs made honorable mention all-district -- Braden Paker and Riley Coy.Only seniors qualified for this year’s all-district team. Head Coach Mike Kirtley said this year’s group of seniors were “outstanding.“They were respectful, worked hard at getting better and fun to coach. I’m going to miss them,” he continued.“I hope they left a legacy to the younger guys to continue building on,” Kirtley concluded.An awards banquet honoring all of this season’s accomplishments will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, at the high school cafeteria, sponsored by the Tonkawa Quarterback Club.This year’s Buc football team finished 10-2 overall and made the playoffs for the third year in a row -- 9-3 both 2020 and 2021.Their only losses this season came to semi-finalists Hominy 2127 and Colcord 14-35.As a result, MaxPreps has honored this team by moving them all the way to fifth in this week’s Class A ratings, behind four unbeaten teams -- all in the semis -- 1. Colcord, 2. Hominy, 3. Gore and 4. Fairview.
