Starting with the traditional Friday morning Alumni Coffee and All-class meeting, THS Alums had a full weekend. Friday morning, THS students welcomed Alumni with coffee and cookies in the Event Center. President David Fruits welcomed Alumni, reported on Alumni projects, and introduced the Alumni Board. Superintendent Lori Simpson presented an update on school projects. Vice- President Melinda Glasgow recognized both past and present Distinguished Alumni and Buccaneer Pride recipient, Charles Conaghan. Scholarship Chair Dr. Jill Shackelford announced Alumni Scholarship recipients Emma Owen, daughter of Annie and Jeremy Owen, and James Grien, son of Monica and Peter Grein. Alumni members approved Fruits, Secretary Reta Swords, Treasurer Debbie Flannery, Shackelford, and Glasgow as officers for the coming year. After the meeting, alums, their families, and friends continued to reminisce during the parade and assembly. Several class reunions took place, and the Buc win highlighted the weekend.On Saturday, the Alumni Association celebrated three outstanding Distinguished Alumni at its fifteenth Annual Distinguished Alumni Recognition held at the THS Event Center. Former THS students recognized for their outstanding careers were Dr. Michelle Jeffries, Superintendent/CEO of Francis Tuttle Technology Center; Dr. Jonice Webb, author and Clinical Psychologist; and Roger Patrick Johns, Oil & Gas Design Engineer. After a social hour in the Event Center lobby, students in the THS Gifted Program served lunch catered by Mary’s Grill. Shari Gierhart gave the invocation. Fruits welcomed Alumni, and Glasgow introduced Alumni Board members as well as others. Shackelford read a letter from scholarship recipient Emma Owen expressing her gratitude, and Colton Anson voiced his appreciation for his second year scholarship to NOC as well as the teachers who mentored him during his high school career.Videos depicting the honorees from childhood through time at THS and into their careers were presented, followed by remarks from friends and family members. Speakers were Patrice Webb Abernathy, Heather Jeffries Hancock, and Tony Fath. Fruits then presented awards to the honorees. The luncheon ended with door prizes distributed by Ty Williams and Jeremy Owen. The school song, led by Glasgow and accompanied by Diana Reese on the piano, closed the event.Current board members are Fruits, Glasgow, Flannery, Chris LaBlue, Randall Caughlin, Blaine Fath, Gierhart, Owen, Williams, Mike Schatz, Shackelford and Swords.
