Tonkawa’s defense stood tall against Chelsea Friday night.Vety tall in a 48-14 win. The Bucs used two interception returns for touchdowns in the first half for a 34-6 lead at intermission.In the second half, Buc defenders held Chelsea to one first down and only one pass completion for minus five yards. They also held Chelsea to a mere 16 yards rushing on 17 attempts.Buc defenders also held the Green Dragons on fourth and one at the Buc goal-line late in the game.Who led this defense? Luke Shepherd and Dom Grein each had 13 tackles. Dalton Pierce had 12 and Jaidyn Guzman 11.Westyn Freeman and Blake Bristow each had interceptions for touchdowns and Hazeal Hernandez covered a fumble late in the game. The JV Bucs played almost the entire third and fourth quarter offensively and sprinkled in on defense.Grein, Tyler Looper, Pierce, Guzman, Freeman, Jadin Howard, Ryan Morgan, Hayden Grell and Hernandez all had tackles for minus yardage.Junior quarterback Ryan Morgan was 10 of 17 for 168 yards passing and three touchdowns.Running back Cameron Jackson carried the ball only 12 times, but for 177 yards and two touchdowns.Blake Bristow, who plays multiple positions offensively, caught two touchdown passes plus the one he caught from Chelsea’s quarterback and ran it back 41 yards for a score.He finished the night with 91 yards receiving and another 17 rushing. Total him with 108 all-purpose yards.After trading punts in the first quarter, the Bucs went 75 yards in 5 plays, scoring on a 24 yard pass from Morgan to freshman wideout Cayden Duvall. Jackson had a 29 yard run in the drive.Westyn Freeman returned an interception 28 yards just a minute later. Jackson’s PAT kick put the Bucs up 13-0. It would be the first of six he would execute perfectly.Tonkawa went up 20-0 on a 74 yard drive in 12 plays. Jackson scored from five yards away.
