Hominy-Tonkawa: This game was everything state-wide high school football enthusiasts thought it would be. The only thing wrong from Tonkawans’ point of view was the outcome. The final score— Hominy 27, Tonkawa 21. Sure, some of the calls were questionable. But that goes for both sides. These two teams were about as evenly matched as they could be. All of the Buc’s team goals are still in front of this team. Make the playoffs. Host a playoff game, and who knows, play in the state championship Dec. 9, whether it be a rematch with Hominy or some one else.Far-fetched some of you might say. In the 2000 season, Hominy won the district title and beat the Bucs 27-14. The Bucs went 91 yards in 14 plays with Cam Jackson scoring from a yard out with 2:06 left in the first quarter. Jackson kicked the first of three conversions. In the drive Jackson had a run of 10 yards and Blake Bristow had runs of 14 and 17 yards.Hominy came right back and scored to knot it up early in the second period 7-7. But the Bucs came roaring back.Bristow broke loose on a 54 yard run just a minute later to put the Bucs back on top 14-7. That would be the last time Tonkawa would lead. Hominy scored at the three minute mark of the second quarter and added a two point conversion after an encroachment penalty put the ball on 1 1/2 yard line. That two points made it 15-14 at halftime. After forcing Tonkawa to punt after ...
