In what may be the top prep game in all of Oklahoma, but no doubt in Class A, 7-0 Tonkawa will go to 7-0 Hominy Friday night.Kick off is at 7 p.m. at Buck Stadium. Everything is on the line -- District A-5 championship, home field advantage for the playoffs and then there is just plain pride.According to MaxPreps Hominy is ranked number one and Tonkawa is number two in all of class A. The Daily Oklahoman ranked it the fifth best game in all classes statewide and top game in Class A, saying “The top game in class A this week will feature a pair of teams that have been outstanding so far. This matchup will likely have big implications on which squad claims District A-5.” The other polls have Tonkawa three or four and Hominy at fifth. It should be a classic from kickoff to the end. “They’ll be the most talented team we will face this season,” Head Coach Mike Kirtley said Sunday while watching game film on the Bucks. “They have a whole bevy of skill players. They have good team speed on both sides of the ball and a huge front line.”Hominy will likely be in a 3-4 defensive alignment, but they run multiples out of that. Offensively, they’ll be in multiple line-ups as well along with a power spread.“This will also be the best quarterback we’ve faced this year,” Kirtley continued, “He can run and pass plus he has lots of weapons to go to.”The Buc head coach, who has been in several similar ball games during the past 30-plus years, says the Bucs will have to “play error-free football” meaning to keep penalties and turnovers to a minimum. On its way to 7-0, Hominy has beaten Kelleyville 57-29, Cleveland 51-14, Pawhuska 27-22, Pawnee 34-0, OK Union 47-8, Morrison 33-7 and Chelsea 36-0.Tonkawa is beginning a three-game run that will be “extremely challenging for us,” Kirtley said -- at Hominy, then finish up at home vs. Chelsea and Woodland. both ranked -- just not as high.Coach Kirtley said he was proud of the way the players performed vs. Morrison last Thursday night. “It was our most solid performance of the season on both sides of the ball. We were shorthanded but the other kids really stepped up.”Roman Chandler and Cayden Duvall should be available this week for Hominy.
