The Board of Education of Tonkawa Public Schools has announced that statutorily qualified individuals interested in running as a candidate for the #2 seat on the Tonkawa Board can file to run as a candidate for this seat at the Kay County Election Board in Newkirk from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, through Wednesday, Dec. 7.That seat is currently held by Nancy Appleman. The primary election will be held on Feb. 14, 2023. The genereal election will be April 4, 2023. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. A resolution calling for the election was approved at Monday night’s board meeting. Members present included Casey McAninch, Tyler Langston, Brian Bowling and Nancy Appleman. Jerry Hook was absent.In other action, the board approved: -- Warrants totalling $57,874.02 with $53,555.37 from the general fund, $4 from the building fund and $3,314.65 from the child nutrition fund.-- Approved a transfer of $1,821.95 from account 810 class of 2021 to account 801 Midhi/high school; and $953 from account 839 Class of 2020 to account 801 Midhi/high school.-- Approved Tonkawa schools Title IX policy on non-discrimination based on sex.-- Approved a special education para professional for Tonkawa elementary school for this school year.-- Approved resident teacher comittees for the current school year as follows: Midhi/high school -- Jessica Campbell, FACS, with Francis Wecker mentor and administration Kyle Simpson and Monica Grein. Coradino Rasato, science/SS, with Angela Reyes as mentor; and Trenton Neal, math, with Stony Fath as mentor.Elementary School -- ShaClair Garcia will administrate with the teacher and mentor listed as follows: Sandra Egula and Cinthia Rodriguez; Joniece LeValley and Heather Shepherd; Barbara Ray and Kaitlyn Anderson; Kayla Hohmann and Phil Jernigan; Kristina Fischer and Carolee Kirtley; Julie Levings and Phil Jernigan; Katelyn Fisher and Kaitlyn Anderson.
