To say Buc Head Coach Mike Kirtley was elated after a 37-26 win over Pawnee last Friday night was an understatement. But Tonkawa doesn’t get to rest on its brand new second statewide Class A rating as a result. The Bucs go to South Coffeyville this Friday against Oklahoma Union in another key District A-5 contest.“I thought our kids effort was our high point of the game,” Kirtley said about the Pawnee win. “We had to follow order and do it aggressively. And that’s what our kids did. They played well in a crazy environment “I hope we have that same type effort in any game we play and I don’t see why we won’t be in any game we are in.”Kirtley continued, “We had a really good week of coaching and a good plan both offensively and defensively. We had five days of straight submarining training. We were outweighed nearly 100 pounds a man.”The Bucs had its two-mile track relay team up front defensively -- Jadin Howard, Isaiah lively, Dalton Piercce and Peyten Keith.Tonkawa can’t rest on its laurels too long. They put it all on the line once again this Friday vs. OK Union. The Cougars are 0-5, losing to Wyandotte 14-22, Commerce 0-28, Colcord 0-48, Morrison 0-32 and Hominy 8-47.Offensively, they are a mix between Pawnee’s single wing and a spread, Kirtley said. “They play hard, but not as big as Pawnee. They have a really good quarterback, that’s good-sized and can run and pass.”Defensively, OK Union will be in a 3-4, but rush five most of the time.Tonkawa 2-0 5-0 Hominy 2-0 5-0 Woodland 2-0 3-2 Chelsea 1-1 4-1 Morrison 1-1 2-3 Pawnee 0-2 3-2 OK Union 0-2 0-5 Chouteau 0-2 0-5This Week’s Games*Chouteau at Chelsea *Tonkawa at OK Union *Morrison at Hominy *Woodland at Pawnee *Denotes district gameLast Week’s ResultsChelsea 28 Morrison 12 Hominy 47 OK Union 8 Tonkawa 37 Pawnee 26 Woodland 22 Chouteau 0Big 12 gamesOU at Texas TCU at Kansas Texas Tech at OSU KL-State at Iowa StateArea prep contestsPutnam North at Ponca City Blackwell at Alva Millwood at Perry Newkirk at OCS Garber at Pond Creek DCLA at Medford ...
