The annual “Chikaskia River Showdown” will be this Friday at Buc Stadium.Tonkawa’s third-ranked Bucs host 1-1 Class 2A Blackwell in a rivalry that dates back years ago.The Bucs will play the Maroons at 7 p.m. this Friday at Buc Stadium.The lone win for the Maroons came against the OKC Patriots 7-6. They fell to Stigler 0-52 last Friday night.Tonkawa, on the other hand, is 2-0 with wins over Newkirk 28-6 and Perry 59-6. “They’re big and real phuysical,” Head Coach Mike Kirtley said this week. “Their QB is a real good runner. If we play like we did last week, we’ll have a chance to compete.”About last week’s big win over Perry... “We still need to improve on our offensive blocking and clean some other stuff up. I thought the defense looked better, but there are always ways to improve. It was nice to be on the plus side of the take-aways.“I thought our offense ran the ball really well, even though the Bucs were missing starters Blake Bristow (ankle) and Jaidyn Guzman (knee). We had to have some freshmen step up and Cayden Duvall and Lucas Keith did just that.”Kirtley was quick to praise Dominic Grein, who led the Bucs with 19 tackles. “He controlled the line of scrimmage defensively,” he said.
