EDWARD DALE HEMBREE

Eddie was born October 20, 1931, at the Hembree Homestead, and died at home Wednesday, August 3, 2022, just feet from where he had been born. He was the grandson of a pioneer who successfully made the Cherokee Strip Land Run in 1893.

Eddie was the youngest of nine children born to Mayward G and Ludie C (Moss) Hembree. He went to Richland school on the corner just a quarter mile north of his home, then attended Tonkawa high school and NOJC.

Eddie married Wilma Jane Miller February 10, 1950, at the First Christian Church in Tonkawa. They farmed and ranched together for 51 years, making a happy home and always welcoming friends and family. They also were in partnerships that operated Dairyland and Tonkawa Shipping and an income tax business.

Eddie enjoyed people, gathering with family for holidays, road trips with friends, picking his guitar, playing the fiddle, whittling and carving wood, lake trips, genealogy and family research, history, sports and many other interests. All of which made him an interesting person to visit with.

Eddie is survived by his daughter Janene Daily and husband David, son Taylor Hembree and wife Janie, and son Marvin Hembree and wife Ruth, five grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and a brother, Harold W. Hembree. Eddie was looking forward to a great-great grandson due in September.

In 2001, Eddie was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma and a son, David Edward Hembree. He outlived many of his personally selected pallbearers. A family burial was held August 6th and a visitation at his home was held thereafter. Donations may be made to cancer research or Tonkawa IOOF cemetery.

If the success of a man is judged by the love of friends and family, Eddie was a very wealthy man.
