Bursons Winners In ScotchDouble Golf Tournament Dr. and Mrs. G. E. Burson with a total of 84 strokes were winners of the Scotch Doubles Golf Tournament Sunday at the NOC golf course, Bob Zweiacher, tournament director announced. In second place were Mr. and Mrs. Randy Glasgow with a score of 86. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Green and Mr. and Mrs. Red Hall tied for third with 93 strokes but the Greens won in a sudden death playoff. All of the winners were given trophies.A total of ten couples participated in the tournament. Each player in the two-some alternated taking shots and the total score was what both took for the 18 holes. Those who took part in the tournament in addition to the winners were: Mark Burson-Mrs. Marilee Helton, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Crumrine, Dr. Jerry Scholz-Mrs. Betty Bertman, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Morrill and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Yowell.Zweiacher said the tournament was a success and play was completed about 2 p.m. Sunday.Five Tonkawans Certified As Scuba DiversFive young people from Tonkawa received their certification as Scuba divers at Lake Tenkiller on Friday July 21, after completing their open water dives.The newly certified divers are Sherry Jeffries, Mary Knight, Garry Steiner, Tony Fath and Chuck Smith. They completed a course of 20 hours of lecture, 44 hours of water work and an open water dive to a depth of 40 feet, written test, a physical fitness test and a water test.Instructors were Bob Eicher and Dr. Gerald O’Mealey. All of the divers became members of the non-profit Wheat Heart Divers Club upon certification. Officers are Dr. O’Mealey, president, Mike Schatz, safety officer and Sherry Jeffries, secretary-treasurer.A new Scuba class will begin Tuesday night at 8:30 at the municipal swimming pool. Information on the class may be obtained from Sherry Jeffries, 628-2016. Any certified Scuba diver may join the diving club by contacting Miss Jeffries.Approve Vo-Tech Building IssueTonkawa voters approved the $1,100,000 bond issue for construction of a Pioneer Area Vo-Tech School building Tuesday by a 110-49 margin in a light vote for the special election. County-wide the issue carried 2,274-530. A 60 percent majority was required for passage and 78 percent approved the measure.All 14 county voting places had a majority in favor of the issue although the vote was close at Blackwell where there was organized opposition to the issue.The vote in the county ...
