Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2022 for the Kay County Commissioner District #3 and State and Federal Offices Election. Kay County Election Board Secretary Carol Leaming, offer these important tips to voters-especially those who will be casting a ballot for the first time.There are four vying for District 3 County Commissioner, which includes Tonklawa -- Kent Field, John A. Wilson, Joe M. Allbaugh and Paul Butch Skidmore. All are Republicans.Early voting for the June 28 Primary Election begins Thursday at 8 a.m. Republican and Democratic primaries will take place, along with several nonpartisan elections in many counties.In-person absentee voting, more commonly known as “early voting,” will be held Thursday, June 23 and Friday, June 24 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Early voting is also on Saturday, June 25 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. No excuse is needed to cast an in-person absentee ballot. In Kay County, one can vote early at the Kay County Election Board, Newkirk courthouse. Early voting locations/dates/times are available on the State Election Board website.Oklahoma has closed primaries. However, for the 2022-2023 election years, the Democratic Party has opened its primaries to registered Independents.Voting TipsMark your ballot using the example posted at your polling place and inside your ballot booth. If you make a mistake, do not try to correct it. Instead take your ballot to the precinct officials. They will destroy it and issue a new one.You do not need to make a selection for each issue on the ballot in order for you ballot to be counted. The voting device will cast votes only for those issues which you have marked.Ballots can be read by the voting device regardless of how you insert the ballot into the system. If the system detects too many markings for a single office or question, an error report will be printed and the ballot will be returned to the voter for a new ballot to be issued.If you need assistance or would like to use the audio-assisted ballot system, let a precinct official know. You do not have to show proof of a disability to use the audio-assisted ballot system.Be sure to bring an approved form of identification.
