Third, will receive his second lieutenant commission and B.S. degree upon graduating from the U.S. Air Force Academy Wednesday, June 7.In this year’s graduating class – the 14th in the 17-year air academy history – 61 per cent of the 750 members will go to pilot or navigator training. The remainder will pursue graduate degrees at universities throughout the country or be assigned to operational Air Force units.Cadet Humphries, who majored in international affairs, has been assigned to the Office of Special Investigation, Atlanta, Ga., for duty. He received special recognition this semester by being named to the Superintendent’s List for academic and military excellence.The cadet is a 1968 graduate of Tonkawa High school where he was a member of the National Honor Society.Joyce Jared Is Elected Officer At Girls StateJoyce Jared was elected to the office of Commissioner at Oklahoma Girls State, held May 27-June 3 at Ada.An eight-day program in citizenship and government, Girls State is sponsored and conducted by the American Legion Auxiliary. The 416 girls representing over 200 Oklahoma high schools were assigned to sixteen mythical cities in which they lived, and divided into Boomer and Sooner parties. Classes in all phases of government from the precinct level toClasses in all phases of government from the precinct level to the state level are conducted by members of the East Central State College faculty and various government officials.Tonkawans Have Several Guests Past WeekendRecent guests in the home of Mrs. Lucy Zimmerman, 902 N. 7th, were her grandson and his family, Mr. and Mrs. Eric Musser, Michele and two-week-old Robert of Oklahoma City, and Pfc. Michael Gentry, Memphis, Tenn.Also, visiting the W. S. Marshes were sisters Jean Mitchell of Waynesville, Mo., and Daisy Macfarlane, Pasadena, Calif. Mrs. Macfarlane is the author of “Waves in Wind-Bent Grass,” a story of early-day Oklahoma, and other poems in verse form. A copy is in the Tonkawa Library.The brothers and sisters, including Harry Marsh of Van Buren, Ark., attended the 50-year anniversary of the closing of Kingfisher College, which all five attended. About 60 other people from many states also attended the event.
