50 years ago, April 20, 1972Fitzgerald Named To Service Bank Director BoardThe Tonkawa native, Roy E. “Friday” Fitzgerald was elected to the board of directors of the Service Bank Thursday, it has been announced by Leon Carver, chairman of the board. Fitzgerald is a senior vice president of the Fidelity Bank of Oklahoma City and well known in state.He was formally with the International Supreme Council of the Order of DeMolay in Kansas City, Mo. before joining the bank. He served as executive assistant and campaign manager for Gov. Johnston Murray from 1950-54. He is active in youth work and civic organizations in Oklahoma City. He is a 33rd degree Mason, a member of the Shrine and is recognized as father of DeMolay in Oklahoma.Born here, he is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ed Fitzgerald. Carver said today. “We are pleased to have Friday serve on the board of his home town bank. He is well known here and we are happy to have him associated with us.”Carver also announced that Larry Penn has been elected secretary of the board of directors. He has been with the bank for the past year as cashier and operations manager. He and his wife, Edwina and two daughters, Janice and Donna live at 103 South Second.Scout Troop 26 Attends Annual Camporee Sat.Boy Scout Troop No. 26 attended the annual Camporee Friday and Saturday at Will Rogers Scout Reservation near Cleveland. Eighteen Tonkawa boys joined approximately 500 Boy Scouts in competition in outdoor activities.Troop 28 was awarded third place in overall camp appearance and troop organization. They competed with 16 other troops. The Underground Patrol led by Jim Appleman and Gregg Davis won the events contest with a first place ribbon and a superior rating. The Panther Patrol, with leaders Kevin Steichen and Kurt Kirtley, was also awarded a superior ribbon. Mark Burson and Daryl Scheirman’s Pep Patrol was awarded an excellent ribbon.Adults spending the night and two days were John Mocho, Scoutmaster; Bob Steichen, Assistant Scoutmaster; Gilbert Smith and Dr. Ron Appleman.
