School will start Aug. 22, 2022, according to action taken at the monthly meeting of the Tonkawa Board of Education Monday night.Principals were also rehired for the 2022-23 school year.Board members present included Casey McAninch, Cara Beth Johnson, Jerry Hook, Brian Bowling and Nancy Appleman.High School Principal Kyle Simpson, who has been in that position since 2004, was rehired on the recommendation of Superintendent Lori Simpson.Simpson has been with the school system 20 years. Board President McAninch told Kyle his service to students was “noted and appreciated.”Grade School Principal Kelly Martin was rehired for a ninth term, also on the recommendation of Simpson. Martin has been in education for 31 years and has been in Tonkawa 20 years.In other action Monday night, the board:The superintendent said Martin is good at “getting every bit of good out of her people.”In other action Monday night, the board: -- Approved expenditures totalling $128,507.10 with $105,725.96 from the general fund; $22,186.84 from the building fund and $594.30 from the child nutrition fund.-- Approved district participation in the summer food program again. Last year during June and July, Tonkawa schools fed 1,421 breakfasts and 3,251 lunches.-- Approved the 2022-23 school calendar. School will start Aug. 22, 2022 and the last day of school will be May 18.-- Approved a resolution for National Counseling Week honoring school counselors Monica Grein and Sha’Clair Garcia.
