60 years ago, June 12, 1961Two Wichita Men Are Charged With Area BurglariesThe arrest of two Wichita, Kans. men Thursday and their subsequent arraignment has apparently cleared up numerous burglaries in Northern Oklahoma including one in Tonkawa and one in Lamont.Gary L. Tousey, 21, and Jim Tally, 22, both of Wichita, had reportedly made statements admitting burglaries of Kelle-Hall Oil company here, a hardware store in Lamont, the Kildare Co-op elevator. Stephenson Salvage yard and Kay Packing company in Ponca City, all of which occurred about May 2.A third man has been implicated by the men being held in the county jail on charges of grand larceny.Taken in the various burglaries were: Kelle-Hall service station, $120; Lamont hardware, .22 cal. Rifle, clock radio, cartridges and cash; Kildare Co-op, book of collectors coins and transistor radio; Ponca City Salvage yard, pellet gun and other items; Kay Packing company, .22 cal. Pistol and about $50 in cash; Eldo’s garage, Ponca City, change from soft drink machine; Airline Drive-in theatre, Ponca City, change from cigarette machines in the concession stand.According to Undersheriff Norman Coffelt, the capture of the men might clear up still more burglaries in the area that have occurred during the past few months.“Hutch” Retires June 30W. R. Hutchison, county agent of Kay county for the past 32 years, is retiring.His retirement becomes effective June 30, after which he will devote most of his time to caring for a herd of registered Herefords on his farm near Newkirk.Born April 5, 1903 at Tulia, Tex., Hutchison attended grade and high school there and was graduated from Texas A & M college in 1924.After teaching vocational agriculture in White Deer, Tex. for1 ½ years, he became assistant county agent in Garfield county, Okla., then 11 days later became county agent in Beaver county.On July 1, 1927, Hutchison went to Blaine county as agent and stayed there until Oct. 19, 1929 when he came to Kay county.A few of the accomplishments during Hutchison’s tenure in Kay county are numerous championships in judging contests – land, cattle, poultry and dairy.Kay County 4-H club livestock judging teams were state champions in 1931, ’35, ’40, ’42, ’44, ’49, ’50, ’51, ’52, ’53, ’55, ’56, ’58, ’59 and ’60 and reserve champions in 1941 and 1938.Kay teams were champions of the American Royal in 1931. ’42 and ’46.
