Wayne completed only 2 of 3 passes last Friday night.The only catch was that both went to Tonkawa defensive back Jake Randall for interceptions that set up two of four touchdowns for the Bucs on their way to a 27-0 win in the first round of the Class A state championship playoffs.When you play good on both sides of the ball (the Buc defense held the Bulldogs to a mere 73 yards total offense) and keep turnovers to a minimum, usually it’s a winning combination.But the march to a state title is no easy task.Tonkawa will go to Fairview this Friday in the second round of five to take on an unbeaten 11-0 Yellowjacket team, champions of District A-1.The Wayne game was littered with big plays on both sides of the ball.-- Two interceptions by Jake Randall set up two of the four Tonkawa touchdowns and a 48 yard pass reception set up the first one; and another one of 29 yards just before halftime to set up another.-- Cam Jackson scored three of the four Buc touchdowns, one a 41 yard run behind the blocking of an inspired offensive line -- center Tuff Crosby, guards Miccael Brown and Dominic Grein; and tackles Brendan Ochoa and Dante Mendoza.-- Four key pass receptions by Kai Day helped in two of those scores -- one of 11 yards on the first drive and three more of 11, 18 and 11 yards on the 88 yard drive to end the first half.-- Quarterback Ryan Morgan was mostly on target, completing 9 of 13 passes for 156 yards to three different receivers -- Randall, day and Roman Chandler.-- Punter Ochoa was his usual best at, kicking three times for an amazing 43 yards per kick average.The defense was led by Noah Campbell with 12 tackles. Mendoza had 11, including six for losses. Luke Shepherd had 10, Grein 8, Day 7 and Chazz slavens 6.
