60 years ago, May 15, 1961Assembly of God ChurchRemodeling Nears FinishThe remodeling of a church is very much like modernizing a home, according to Chester Grimm, member of the Tonkawa Assembly of God.“You start to do a little work, but each job seems to call for another until you have a major project on your hands,” Grimm explains.Hundreds of man hours and several hundreds of dollars have been expended on the Assembly of God building at Second and Tonkawa with very favorable results.Work started with removal of interior partitions and the old slanted floor of the building. A new concrete floor was poured and now rooms for a nursery and Sunday School classes were built. In so doing, the auditorium was faced the opposite direction.A central heating system and all new wiring and plumbing fixtures were also installed in the project. The passer-by will notice the new brick veneer front and a new side entrance to the building. Included in the project too, is a lighted aluminum sign and a wooden cross on the front. Work still continues along the sides and with landscaping.Spearheading the modernization was Raymond Owen, pastor of the church.A two-week revival began in the church Sunday with Dewayne Friend of Mountain Home, Mo. the speaker. Nightly services are held each day except Saturday.Rev. Owen has extended an invitation to everyone to attend the services and to inspect the new facilities of the church.Maverick Award Will Go To Top Athlete of NOJCAn annual award to be presented to Northern Junior college’s “outstanding athlete” has been established by The Maverick, student newspaper of Northern Junior college.
