City Twirlers Rank Well In USTA Contest
Two twirling students of Mrs. Susan Steiner entered state events in the U.S.T.A. State Contest in Enid Saturday, placing in each event they entered. They were Miss Sondra Ross, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Ross, who placed fifth in the state solo and third in state two-baton; and Miss Laurie Rogers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Rogers, who placed second in her division of state solo.
In open events at the contest Laurie Weeks placed first in intermediate solo and fifth in Best Appearance; Lisa Green, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Green, placed third in her beginner solo; and Cheryl Kreger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Kreger of Lamont placed fourth. Janet Weeks, daughter of Mrs. Stella Weeks, ranked fifth in the open division of her two-baton, and Sondra Ross placed fourth in intermediate solo and fifth in her division of Best Appearance. Also participating in open events were Patsy Shultz and Jill Frazier.
Camp Fire Girls, Blue Birds Leave Early
Three bus loads of Blue Birds and Camp Fire girls will leave from the high school Saturday morning at 5:30 a.m. for Norman on the annual educational tour of the group.
Girls are instructed to be at the high school at 5:15 a.m. with the buses departing at 5:30. They are to be wearing their blue skirts and white blouses, white socks, and Camp Fire ties, according to Mrs. Leslie Mayes, leader association president. The group will have lunch at the Norman park at 1 p.m. for which each is to take a sack lunch tagged with her name, and a mid-morning snack of fruit or pastry, not candy. They are asked to wear no “cancans”, caps or ceremonial jackets.
Itinerary for the day includes arrival at the Norman high school at 9:30 a.m.; tour of Cerebral Palsy institute, museum and newspaper plant, starting at 10 a.m.; picnic lunch at park with drink to be furnished at 1 p.m.; a tour of the OU campus at 2 p.m.; dinner at the Larkin hotel at 4 p.m. and departure for Tonkawa at 5 p.m.
The girls and their chaperones will arrive back in Tonkawa between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. where they are to be met at the high school by their parents.
