Whitehead Will Star On TV Show
Edgar Whitehead III, better known to Tonkawa residents as “Bud,” 1947 graduate of Tonkawa high school and of Northern Oklahoma Junior college in 1949, will appear as special guest on the Oklahoma City KWTV service program. “Full Count,” Sunday, April 9 at 11 a.m.
Son of long-time Tonkawa residents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Whitehead, Jr., now of Wewoka. Whitehead completed his college work at University of Illinois where he received his degree in Accounting with a minor in Economics. He is a former staffer on the Tonkawa News.
The 15 minute show each week spotlights an Oklahoman who has faced a disability and still chalked up a full count on the scoreboard of success in business and recreation. It is produced jointly by the Channel 9 station and the Oklahoma Vocational Rehabilitation division of the State Department of Vocational Education.
Whitehead had polio in 1949 soon after he graduated from junior college. He was completely paralyzed from the neck down and in a respirator for approximately three months.
He now heads the fiscal department of Oklahoma Vocational Rehabilitation division, drives his own car, loads his wheelchair unassisted and maintains a busy active life in Oklahoma City.
Pictures and films of his activities will be used to illustrate the 15-minute interview conducted by regular hostess, Marion Davis, counselor with Vocational Rehabilitation and also a post polio.
