JOHN MICHAEl BuRNS

John Michael Burns ascended into heaven on June 12, 2021 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. God received another angel. His Celebration of Life will be Friday, June 18, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Event Center at Tonkawa High School, with Terry Ballard officiating. Pallbearers will be Chancey Burns, Peyton Day, Kai Day, and Parker Miller. Those unable to attend the Funeral Ceremony, may attend virtually on the Trout Funeral Home website, www.troutfuneralhome.com and click on the live-stream or toolbar icon on the top right corner after 10:45 a.m.

John was born on October 1, 1963 to Donald D. Burns and Loretta J. Burns in Ponca City, Oklahoma. He was part of the Tonkawa community his whole life.

John and Kim were married on December 26, 1981 at the First Christian Church in Tonkawa. He worked at Smith Bit/Smith International for 30 years. Throughout his adult life he worked for Bob Diemer as needed. He was a booster club member for the Tonkawa Agriculture Club, coached his kids and grandkids in all their events officially and unofficially, but always with love. All who knew John, knew he loved his family the most. His joy and happiness came from attending all of the family activities and functions.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Loretta Burns, brother, Terry D. Burns and father-in-law, Elwin (Ed) Floyd Clark.

John is survived by: the love of his life wife Kim L. Burns; daughter, Jennifer L. Burns and fiance, Kevin Miller; son Chancey L. Burns; sister Pamela M. Wright, brother Joe D. Burns and wife Suzè, Benny R. Burns and wife Rachel, Edward P. Burns and wife Pati; sister-in-law, Kelly Jacobs and husband, Steve; sister-in-law, Kristi Hubbard; brothers-in-law, Scott Clark and girlfriend, Courtney, Tim Clark and wife, Kaoru. Grandchildren, Peyton Z. Day, Malikai D. Day, Brooklyn L. Day, Aniston K. Burns, Parker S. Miller, and Carlee J. Miller and numerous nieces and nephews.

John was the best of the best. He gave driving lessons to all his grandkids behind his house, went on several hunting trips to Colorado, rode and worked with his horses and his annual adventures with his beloved Kim with no destination in mind.

When a person has died, we can feel confident that our gift to them was the gift of ourselves. Their gift to us then becomes all the treasury of memories of times well spent together. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Tonkawa Ag Department or Tonkawa High School Weight Room Project (make checks payable to Tonkawa High School and designate their donation choice in the memo section of their check). You may also make a donation to Tonkawa Youth Sports (make checks payable to Tonkawa Recreation and drop or send to Tonkawa Chamber of Commerce).
