Local Youth Will Appear on Program Monday In conjunction with the year’s emphasis on youth, local winners of the American Legion and Auxiliary sponsored projects will present the program at a joint dinner meeting of the organizations to be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the the Legion hall. The event, held annually, will mark the 42nd birthday anniversary of the American Legion.
Joe Hubbell is currently serving as president of the local Legion post and Mrs. A.D. Buck is president of the Auxiliary.
Appearing on the program Monday will be Marilyn Cathey and Judy Asbury, 1960 representatives in Girls State, and Boys Staters Kenny Bray, Bill Fix and James Gilbert.
Winners of the Americanism essay contest who will appear are Steve Fiskin, Jim Swafford, Mary Lou Mills, Darla Strange, Joy Asbury and Gwen Burns.
Music will be provided by Norvel Bryson, NJC student and former Ponca City Home school resident.
Mrs. Ben Blubaugh, dinner chairman, invites all Legion members and their families and all Auxiliary members and their families to attend and to bring a salad or vegetable and their own table service.
City Manager Is “Ambassador” for Shrine Convention
Hal H. Hunt, Tonkawa city manager, became an “ambassador” third week after being officially appointed Tonkawa’s goodwill ambassador and honorary host for the 43rd annual convention of the Shrine Directors association of North America to be held in Tulsa, March 21-23.
The appointment and a meritorious award medallion were presented by H. l. Moss, potentate of Tulsa’s Akdar Shrine temple in recognition of Hunt’s outstanding record for obtaining Novice candidates for Akdar’s 50th anniversary class to become Shriners in an international induction ceremonial at Tulsa Fairgrounds pavilion at 2 p.m. on March 23.
As a long-time active member of Akdar temple, “Ambassador” Hunt will share the limelight with Imperial Potentate George A. Mattison Jr., of Birmingham, Ala., and thousands of visiting directors and assistants from most of the 166 Shrine temples throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Boy Is Seriously Injured in Crash Of Scooter, Auto
A Tonkawa school boy remained in Blackwell General hospital today after receiving serious injuries in a motor scooter accident Tuesday evening. A girl riding with him also received injuries of a lesser nature.
Lesslie Lynn Howeth, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lesslie Howeth, 106 S. Fifth, suffered compound fractures of the right leg when his motor scooter struck the rear of a parked automobile at 705 E. Grand.
