Eight Tonkawans Are Named to OSU Dean’s Honor Roll
Eight Oklahoma State university students from Tonkawa are among 2,018 who have been named to the OSU Dean’s honor roll for the past semester.
Registrar Raymond Girod said the honor goes each semester to students who achieve a B average or above while carrying a least 15 credit hours, with no grade lower than C.
The college of arts and sciences led the list with 458 students, followed by engineering with 419, business 357, education 300, agriculture 226, home economics 191 and veterinary medicine 67.
Local students on the list include: Jim Eugene Ditmore, engineering senior; Jerry Robert Gard, business senior; Melinda R. Harris, education sophomore; Joe Russell Kreger, agriculture senior; Daryl Lee McKewon, education senior; Lois Margaret Rence, education special student; G. Karlton Witter; engineering junior, and Tana Wood, home economics freshman.
FFA Judging Team Wins 10th in Enid District Contest
The FFA livestock judging team of Tonkawa high school won a 10th place ranking at the Northwestern District Livestock Judging contest held in Enid last week. A total of 43 teams were entered.
Danny Burns was high individual for the local team, scoring 500 out of a possible 550 points. Other Tonkawa scoring was: Danny McCoy, 484; Bob Vincent, 481; and Fred Looper, 475.
In winning its 10th team placing, Tonkawa had a point score of 1465 out of a possible 1,650. Finishing ahead of Tonkawa were: Mooreland, 1,528; Buringgame, 1,511; Dacoma, 1,495; Newkirk, 1,489, Oakwood, 1,481; Ponca City, 1,477; Woodward, 1,475; Perkins, 1,467; and Waynoka, 1,466.
Qualifying for the state judging contest at Stillwater in May by scoring in the upper 20 percent at the district show, the local team will compete Wednesday in Oklahoma City at the annual Fat Stock show and judging contest.
Another honor was won for the local FFA chapter earlier this month when Jimmy Scott won a second place in the junior division at the Kay County Soil Conservation fair held in Ponca City.
Mrs. G. Salisbury Elected President Of Beta Sigma Phi
Mrs. Grace Salisbury was elected president of Gamma Nu chapter of Beta Sigma Phi when they met Monday evening in the home of Mrs. Albert Wetmore. Also named to office, following a report of the nominating committee, were Mrs. Ernest Melichar, vice president; Mrs. Leonard Moses, secretary; Mrs. Jim Noonan, treasurer; and Mrs. David Rence corresponding secretary.
