18 Finalists In Hamateur Are Chosen
Eighteen amateur acts emerged from the Saturday night preliminaries as finalists who will compete against a like number from the March 11 performance in the finals of the seventh annual Hamateur Revue on March 18.
Finalists chosen from the first night’s performance from the open division were Frankie Owens, vocalist from Newkirk; Benny Rosell, vocalist from Wichita; Eddie Wapp, pianist from Chilocco; Marshall and Nelson, duet from Chilocco; Denna and Marilyn Ball, vocal duet of Derby, Kans.; Bill Davis, humorist of Braman; Cheryl Lea Johnson, dancer from Arkansas City; Sharon Clark, pantomimist from Stillwater; Betty Dickson, vocalist from Perkins; The Staccatos, band from Lamont; Joe Bradley, pianist of Braman; and Dale Eckler, trombonist from Newkirk.
Selected as finalists in the junior division were: Crystal Wirt, Ponca City; Cargill and Lindiff, Tonkawa and Drumright; Gwin Malcom, Billings; Geraldine Converse, Vici; Mike Thompson of Newkirk; and Davis and Bovard, Braman.
Six more acts from the junior division and 12 more from the open division will be selected from next Saturday’s performance to complete the bill for the finals on March 18 when prizes totaling $230 and a television appearance will go to the winners.
Mrs. J. T. Robison Is Party Honoree
Mrs. J. T. Robison was complimented on her birthday Tuesday when her daughter, Mrs. Ray Hamilton entertained members of the Friendship and Dorcas classes of the First Baptist church.
Guests presented Mrs. Robison with a red azalea plant.
The singing of old-time hymns and Biblical contests furnished entertainment for the afternoon party held in the Hamilton home, North Public road.
Contests were won by Mrs. J. N. Starr and Mrs. Edith Savage. Mrs. G. P. Zwink presided and Mrs. Virginia Prather led in prayer.
Birthday refreshments were served to Mrs. Lena Wurster and Mrs. Alice Dickerson of Blackwell, and Mrs. Starr, Mrs. Viola Siler, Mrs. Prather, Mrs. Zwink, Mrs. Savage, Mrs. Hettie Bohn, Mrs. W. R. Gullkey, Mrs. Olive Eaglin, Mrs. Ben Siler, Mrs. Sim Furber, Mrs. George Murray, Mrs. Fred Lewis, Mrs. Ellen Mast and Mrs. Bertha Plummer.
