Band Parents’ Club Earns $1,000 for THS Band Support
Tonkawa’s Band Parents club has earned just short of $1,000 for the support of the school band this year, reports showed at the Monday evening meeting of the group.
Club money-making projects have been a downtown coffee, candy sale, radio give-away, concessions at basketball games, and a ground hog supper, all of which totaled $939.97.
Disbursements in the treasurer’s report given by Mrs. Gene Reser, included payment for uniforms, senior jackets, and a drum. Additional expenditures okayed by the club Monday evening included the purchase of 38 music stands for the 72 member band, at a cost of $309.30, a band director’s stand, a “high hat” cymbal stand for the stage band costing $55.70, dinner for the band members when they enter the marching contest at the Enid Tri-State festival on May 4, and jackets for next year’s seniors.
Several band members played solos which they will present at the pre-district music contest at Shidler on Feb. 25. Appearing were Terry Van Meter, alto clarinet, Bill Harris, trumpet, Gloria Fehrenbach, clarinet, and piano accompanists, Patti Reser and Gloria Stokesberry.
Norman Maassen conducted the session, and Mrs. Leslie Mayes gave a report on the ground hog supper. Robert Steichen, band director, spoke to the group briefly on the present status and future activities of the band.
