City Groups Will Sponsor County Bee
Directors of the chamber of commerce Tuesday voted to join Northern Junior college in the annual sponsorship of the Kay County spelling contest finals.
The contest was sponsored until two years ago by the Blackwell chamber of commerce. Last year, the spelling bee was conducted without sponsorship by Dr. W. A. Franklin, county school superintendent.
County finals in Tonkawa will draw 42 youngsters of third through eighth grades who have qualified by winning local contests stated in various parts of the county. As sponsoring organizations, Northern Junior college and the chamber of commerce will furnish personal to conduct district semi-final events, and the finals.
With district champions chosen from each grade, the finals will be staged At Northern where first, second and third pace medals will be given to champion of each grade, trophies will be presented to two divisional winners - third through fifth grade, and sixth through eighth – and the grand champion of the county will receive a plaque.
