SEMINOLE, Oklahoma -- The Northern Oklahoma College Mavs and Lady Mavs swept Seminole State in NJCAA basketball action Tuesday night.
The 5th ranked Mavs (10-0) whipped Seminole 73-50 while the Lady Mavs (3-6) beat the Lady Belles 72-64.
The Mavs are 5-0 in conference while the Lady Mavs are 2-3.
Mavs 73, Seminole 50
The Mavs led from start to finish in winning at Seminole 73-50.
The Mavs led 34-25 at half and extended the lead throughout the second half.”
JD Ray led four Mavs in double figures with 17. Avante Lederer had 14, Tyrel Morgan 12, and Nate Goodlow 11. Syrus Grisby had eight rebounds for the Mavs while Ray had six rebounds and six assists.
“Our guys did a good job of playing hard defensively,” said coach Donnie Jackson. I’m very proud of their effort on that end. We will take this win.”
“I challenged the guys to go 1-0 this week. Since this was our only game, we had to circle the wagons and find a way. We need to get healthy and get some things fine-tuned in practice.”
“I really hope Syrus (Grisby) can keep improving, he has been taking some big steps the last two games. JD (Ray) was phenomenal, he has really been getting things done in the counting stats.”

Lady Mavs 72, Seminole 64
The NOC Lady Mavs rebounded from their loss Saturday to NOC Enid with a win at Seminole over the Lady Mavs.
The Lady Mavs were led by Gavriel Myers with 19 points while Mia Brown had 13 points and Lauren Coates 11.
The third quarter was the key as the Lady Mavs led 34-31 at half but extended the lead to 58-45 lead after three quarters.
“We made better decisions offensively that afforded us some high percentage shots around the basket,” said coach Greg Krause.
“Our defensive help rotations also improved. Being off until Monday will give us some good practice time to work on things.”
