Candidates for municipal offices in Braman, Kaw City, Newkirk and Tonkawa, file Declarations of Candidacy began at 8 a.m. Monday, February 1, 2021.
Two offices are open in Tonkawa presently held by Mayor Kenneth Smith (W2) and Vice Mayor Glenn Cope (W1). Both have filed and will seek re-election.
Cheryl Howard, Secretary of the County Election Board, said the filing period ends at 5 p.m. Wednesday, February 3, 2021.
Declarations of Candidacy will be accepted at the County Election Board office in Newkirk for the indicated offices for each of the following municipalities:
Braman -- Trustee No. 2 , 4-Year Term; Trustee No. 4, 4-Year Term; Trustee No. 5, 4-Year Term; Treasurer , 4-Year Term.
Kaw City -- Councilmember Ward 1, 4-Year Term; Councilmember Ward 3, 4-Year Term
Newkirk -- Mayor, 3-Year Term Tonkawa -- Councilmember Ward 1, 4-Year Term; Councilmember Ward 2, 4-Year Term
The municipal offices at stake in Braman, Kaw City, Newkirk, and Tonkawa will be filled in the nonpartisan General Election scheduled April 6, 2021. A Run-off Election (if needed) for the City of Newkirk will be held September 14, 2021.
