Max Lyall Serves On Music Faculty
Max Lyall of Tonkawa is on the faculty of a Baptist youth music workshop to be held at Oklahoma Baptist university, Shawnee, today through Friday, June 17.
The workshop for junior and senior high school age boys and girls is sponsored by the Church Music Department of the Baptist General convention of Oklahoma.
Lyall will teach two courses in hymn and service playing. He also will be an adjudicator to help determine the outstanding piano student attending the workshop.
Jo Anne Bivens and Patsy Johnson, both of First Baptist church, Blackwell, have enrolled in the workshop from Kay county.
Trudy Morrison Is Society
Editor of The Tonkawa News
Miss Trudy Morrison, journalism student of McGuinness High school of Oklahoma City, this week begins her first regular newspaper assignment as society editor of the Tonkawa News.
During the summer months, she will replace Mrs. Twila Roller in the position.
Trudy, 17, is a senior at McGuinness where next term she will serve as assistant editor of the school paper, The Chi Rhoan. During the 1959-1960 school year, she served on the staff of the monthly publication.
Miss Morrison is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Morrison, Oklahoma City, and is the granddaughter of Mrs. R. A. Ditto, Tonkawa.
Following her graduation from high school next year, she plans to enroll at the University of Dallas to continue her studies in journalism.
The new society editor requests that persons having news items and club reports to phone her at the News office, telephone 900.
Brian Conaghan Reported “Very Well”
In telephone calls to relatives in Tonkawa Sunday, Dorothy Conaghan reported that her husband, Brian, is doing “very well” at the M. D. Anderson hospital in Houston, Tex., where he is being treated for leukemia.
Brian’s father, B. F. Conaghan, and Bill Parnell left Tonkawa today to drive to Houston for a visit with Brian and Dorothy.
114 Children Enrolled In Reading Program
This summer, 114 children are enrolled in the summer reading program being conducted at the public library, according to Mrs. Robert Audd.
Last week, 866 books were checked out of the library. Four children have already read 12 books and received their reading record card. The theme of this summers program is “Summer Reading Regatta.”
